Chlamydia trachomatis RNA, TMA, Rectal
Use
This test utilizes transcription-mediated amplification (TMA), a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) method, to detect Chlamydia trachomatis RNA in rectal swab specimens. It is intended for extragenital (rectal) screening in individuals with suspected exposure or symptoms, based on CDC recommendations for testing sites directed by sexual history or symptoms. Repeat testing of a positive sample using the same methodology is not typically required unless in special circumstances where confirmatory testing is clinically indicated. Special Instructions
Specimen requirement includes rectal swab collected in APTIMA® Transport Tube; the test was reactivated effective November 22, 2021 and later performed in-house from June 6, 2022. Limitations
Limitations include that confirmatory repeat testing using the same methodology is not recommended except in rare cases of potential adverse medical, social, or psychological consequences or low prevalence settings. In such cases, alternative-target TMA tests for rectal specimens are available to confirm positive results.
