Chlamydia trachomatis RNA, TMA, Throat
Use
This is an in vitro nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) utilizing transcription-mediated amplification (TMA) intended for qualitative detection of Chlamydia trachomatis ribosomal RNA from extragenital (throat) specimens. It is suitable for testing based on symptoms, sexual history, or known exposures at extragenital sites. Repeat testing of the same positive sample is generally not needed unless confirmatory testing is clinically warranted in low-prevalence settings or where positive predictive value is reduced. Confirmatory testing may target alternate nucleic acid regions using designated alternate target test codes. Special Instructions
Use throat (pharyngeal) swab collected in Aptima® Transport Tube. Extragenital specimen collection (throat) should be directed by clinical presentation and exposure history. Limitations
Repeat testing of the same positive specimen using the same methodology is not recommended as it does not improve positive predictive value. Confirmatory testing using an alternate nucleic acid target should be considered only in rare cases where false-positive results could have significant consequences or in low-prevalence populations.
