Use
Cryptosporidium is the causative agent of cryptosporidiosis, an infection that frequently presents with persistent diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and occasionally respiratory symptoms. This infection may persist for days to over a month, and tends to be more serious in immunocompromised individuals; early and accurate diagnosis supports appropriate clinical management.
Special Instructions
Collect fresh stool in clean, leak‑proof container and transfer within 30 minutes into a formalin or Total‑Fix® transport vial, filling to the line and mixing thoroughly. Patients should avoid barium products, antacids, antidiarrheal medications, or oil‑based laxatives prior to specimen collection. Setup occurs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with report availability in 1–3 days.
