Dog Dander (e5) IgE
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
Measures immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies in blood to dog dander allergens as a sensitive screening method to detect sensitization to dog allergens. A raised IgE level suggests allergy risk and can prompt further clinical evaluation or management.
Special Instructions
If Dog Dander (e5) IgE is ≥ 0.10 kU/L, a reflex to a Dog Component Panel (components Can f 1, Can f 2, Can f 3, Can f 4, Can f 5, Can f 6) is performed at additional charge. No special patient preparation is required; requires blood specimen collection. Reflex panel provides improved specificity.
Limitations
A positive IgE result indicates sensitization but does not confirm clinical allergy or severity. Results must be interpreted alongside clinical history and other testing (e.g., skin‐prick). Cross‐reactivity possible with other animal allergens; extract tests may lack specificity without component resolution. Reflex adds cost.
