Drug Toxicology Benzodiazepines, with Confirmation, Oral Fluid
Use
This oral fluid test is part of Quest Diagnostics’ drug monitoring panels and can also be ordered as a single-class benzodiazepines test. It is used for detection of recent benzodiazepine use in settings where urine collection is not practical, providing timely information about exposure. Positive screening results automatically reflex to confirmatory testing to verify and quantify results.
Special Instructions
Utilizes the Quantisal™ oral fluid collection device. Screening is followed by confirmatory testing when results meet or exceed cutoff thresholds. Can be collected in a physician’s office or Quest Patient Service Center; observed collection recommended. Follow Quantisal™ instructions: avoid food, drink, gum, or tobacco for 10 minutes before collection.
Limitations
Positive results indicate presence of benzodiazepines but do not quantify dose or time of ingestion. Oral fluid detects recent use and is not comparable to pharmacokinetics in blood or urine. Inadequate collection may occur if donor fails to provide ≥1 mL oral fluid. Cutoffs and windows differ by drug and specimen type; results should be interpreted in clinical context.
