HLA-B Typing, High Resolution
Use
HLA‑B*5701 typing can be used for genetic risk stratification prior to initiation of abacavir therapy to assess risk of hypersensitivity reactions; abacavir‑associated hypersensitivity is strongly associated with presence of the HLA‑B*5701 allele.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out the risk for abacavir hypersensitivity reaction and clinical vigilance must be maintained regardless of result.
Methodology
PCR-based
Biomarkers
