HPV mRNA E6/E7
Also known as: E6/E7, TMA, Hologic
Use
The HPV mRNA E6/E7 test (Aptima® HPV mRNA method) detects E6/E7 messenger RNA transcripts from 14 high‑risk HPV genotypes; these oncoproteins mediate cervical cancer development and overexpression correlates with increased risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer. Compared to HPV DNA tests, this mRNA assay is more specific—fewer false positives and unnecessary follow‑up procedures such as colposcopy and biopsy. It can be performed on cervical specimens, and has also been validated for rectal and post‑hysterectomy vaginal specimens in select configurations.
