JC Polyoma Virus DNA, Quantitative, Real‑Time PCR, CSF
Also known as: Polyomavirus, JCV Polyoma, JCV Viral Load, JC Virus DNA, Quant PCR
Use
JC Polyoma Virus (JCV) is the cause of progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), a demyelinating neurologic disease of immunosuppressed patients. Detection of JCV DNA in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) may indicate disease in AIDS and other severely immunocompromised individuals. Serum antibody testing is not useful for diagnosing PML since antibodies are common in the general population.
