Lead (Venous)
Also known as: PB, Pediatric, Blood Lead, Lead Screen, PB
Use
Measurement of venous blood lead levels provides critical information about lead exposure in patients. Elevated lead in the bloodstream can cause multi-system toxicity, affecting neurocognitive, cardiovascular, and renal function, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children and pregnant individuals.
Special Instructions
Test is not available for New York patient testing; for New York testing use test code 13650 which has identical testing except for NY compliance. This test is performed at Quest Diagnostics, Lewisville, transferred from Nichols Institute, Valencia.
Limitations
Specimens collected in inappropriate containers (e.g., EDTA lavender–top, clotted, or otherwise contaminated samples) may yield inaccurate results; light-protective handling may be required depending on site protocols.
