Levetiracetam, Immunoassay
Also known as: Keppra
Use
LEV is currently used as an anti‑epileptic drug for the treatment of adult partial seizures particularly as an add‑on therapy for refractory patients. It also has potential for other anxiety and cognitive disturbances. Levetiracetam testing helps optimize dosage, verify adherence, detect toxicity, and monitor the impact of recent health changes affecting drug clearance or kidney function. Results are collected at trough, 0.5 to 1 hour before the next oral dose, once steady state is reached approximately 2 weeks after treatment onset. Therapeutic trough range is generally 12 to 46 µg/mL, with levels above 46 µg/mL potentially toxic.
Special Instructions
If brivaracetam has been prescribed, order test code 15142 for Levetiracetam by LC‑MS/MS. Optimum collection time is 0.5 to 1 hour pre‑oral dose at steady state (1‑2 days after treatment onset).
