Phosphate, 24‑Hour Urine without Creatinine
Use
Measurement of urinary phosphorus (phosphate) excretion over a 24‑hour period reflects daily dietary phosphate intake and renal excretion under the influence of parathyroid hormone. It is useful for evaluating phosphate handling and day‑to‑day variability in excretion. It may aid in assessment of disorders of phosphate metabolism and kidney function.
Special Instructions
Collect a well‑mixed 24‑hour urine specimen. Do not include the first morning void; collect all subsequent voids and finish with the first morning void on the following day. Record total 24‑hour volume and collection duration on both container and requisition. Refrigerate during and after collection. Aliquot an appropriate volume (e.g., 10 mL) of mixed specimen for submission.
