Trichomonas vaginalis RNA, Qualitative, TMA, Pap Vial
Use
Trichomonas vaginalis is a common curable sexually transmitted protozoan infection. The T vaginalis TMA assay (manufactured by Hologic®), which uses target capture, transcription-mediated amplification (TMA), and hybridization, is FDA-cleared and provides highly sensitive and specific detection of T vaginalis rRNA, capable of detecting down to one organism per sample, making it far more sensitive than wet-mount, culture, direct probe methods, or Pap smear screening. This makes it a powerful diagnostic tool for both symptomatic and asymptomatic individuals and helps prevent transmission and complications, including reproductive tract inflammation, complications in pregnancy, and contributions to HIV transmission.
