Varicella‑Zoster Virus Antibodies (IgG, IgM)
Also known as: VZV Ab IgG and IgM, Chicken Pox IgG and IgM Ab, Herpes Zoster IgG and IgM Ab
Use
This test includes measurement of both IgG and IgM antibodies to varicella‑zoster virus (VZV), indicating past exposure, immunity, or possible active infection. A detected IgG suggests prior infection or immune response, while IgM may indicate recent or current infection. Interpretation must consider clinical signs and history.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Positive IgG does not differentiate between past and active infection. A negative result in vaccinated individuals may not indicate susceptibility, as vaccination-induced immunity may not be detected. Equivocal results (e.g., index ~0.91–1.09) require repeat testing after 10–14 days. Clinical correlation is essential.
