Use

17-Hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP) in urine is greatly elevated in patients with polycystic ovarian disease and in patients with idiopathic hirsutism.

Special Instructions

Record the total 24-hour urine volume on the test request form. Ensure the proper collection and handling of the urine specimen to maintain its stability and integrity.

Limitations

This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp. It has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Specimens with no preservative or a pH not ≤3 may be rejected. Proper specimen collection and handling are crucial for accurate results.

Collection Instructions

Instruct the patient to void at 8 a.m. and discard the specimen. Preservative must be added to the container prior to the start of collection. Then collect all urine including the final specimen voided at the end of the 24-hour collection period (i.e., 8 a.m. the next morning). Measure and record total urine volume on the request form. Label container with patient's name, date and time collection started, and date and time collection finished. Keep collection on ice. Remove 20 mL aliquot. pH should be ≤3.
