Use
This panel is utilized for the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis. It measures acetylcholine receptor (AChR) binding and blocking antibodies, titin antibodies, and striated muscle antibodies, with possible reflex to AChR modulating antibodies or striated muscle antibody titer. The presence of these antibodies is associated with the clinical presentation of myasthenia gravis, influencing muscle contraction and severity of the disease. The titin antibody is linked with late-onset myasthenia gravis and is sometimes associated with thymoma.
Special Instructions
Ensure to use the correct collection method (plain red top or SST) and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles for the serum specimen. Additional charges apply if reflexive tests are triggered.
Limitations
The presence of antibodies does not confirm the diagnosis of myasthenia gravis without correlated clinical evaluation. Approximately 10-15% of myasthenia gravis patients may not possess measurable antibodies in this test. False positives might occur in patients with other autoimmune disorders or certain medical conditions as noted in the interpretive data of the PDF.
