Use
This test is used to detect the presence and concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to horse hair and dander. The results help assess the likelihood of allergic reactions to horse proteins among individuals showing symptoms of allergies when exposed to horses. A higher concentration of specific IgE antibodies may suggest a greater likelihood of allergic reactions, although it may not correlate precisely with the severity of reactions or with skin test results.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure consistency in allergen exposure and testing conditions. Serum should be transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube as soon as possible after collection, following specific allergen specimen collection instructions.
Limitations
While the assay measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies, these concentrations may not correlate directly with the degree of clinical allergy response or skin testing results. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Interpret results in conjunction with clinical history and in vivo reactivity data for specific allergens.
