Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE in the blood to determine the likelihood of an allergic reaction to cheddar cheese. The results provide a probability of an IgE-mediated clinical reaction, with increasing concentrations indicating a higher likelihood of such reactions. However, the IgE concentration does not always correlate with the clinical response or in vivo testing results. Proper allergy diagnosis should integrate clinical history with laboratory data.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to prevent variability in test results. Proper handling and processing of serum are crucial for obtaining accurate test results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours post-collection. Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations determined by this test may not correlate directly with the severity of clinical reactions or skin test results when challenged with a specific allergen. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy or even severe reactions like anaphylaxis. The clinical significance of results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L is undetermined, and consultation with a specialist is recommended for interpretation.
