Use

The Allergen, Food, Milk (Cow's) Components IgE test measures specific IgE antibodies to milk components. It helps in the diagnosis of milk allergy by identifying specific protein components of milk that trigger allergic reactions. The test assesses the immune response to alpha-lactoalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin, and casein, which are proteins found in cow’s milk. Special Instructions

Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during specimen collection. Ensure that the serum is separated from cells as soon as possible and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Follow specific volume requirements based on the number of allergens ordered.

Limitations

The test detects IgE antibodies to specific milk components, but the presence of these antibodies alone does not confirm clinical allergy. The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE may not directly correlate with clinical symptoms or skin test results. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results should be correlated with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific milk allergens.
