Use
The Allergen, Food, Peanut test is used in the evaluation of patients with suspected peanut allergy. The test measures specific IgE antibodies to peanuts, providing information that helps distinguish between sensitization and clinical allergy. It aids in the assessment of the probability of an IgE-mediated clinical reaction upon exposure to peanuts, which is vital for management and treatment planning of allergic conditions.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure optimal results. Proper specimen handling is crucial: serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, within two hours of collection, and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Limitations
Results of allergen-specific IgE tests should be interpreted with caution. Concentrations of allergen-specific IgE antibodies do not always correlate with the severity of clinical reactions or skin testing results when challenged with the allergen. A negative test does not rule out an allergy or anaphylaxis, and a correlation with clinical history is essential to the diagnosis. Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are for specialist use, as clinical relevance is undetermined.
