Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to Red Dye/Carmine (Red 4), a common food allergen. The test helps in diagnosing allergic reactions related to food sensitivity towards Red Dye/Carmine, which is a dye frequently used in food processing. It provides quantitative results in kU/L, indicating the probability of an IgE-mediated clinical reaction. Concentrations above 0.34 kU/L are grouped into class ratings which reflect potential clinical relevance.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when collecting specimens for allergen testing. Ensure that serum is separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within two hours of collection.
Limitations
Results of IgE concentrations, especially those in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L, might not correlate with clinical symptoms or skin test outcomes. Correlation with clinical history and in vivo reactions is crucial for accurate interpretation. Negative test outcomes do not exclude the possibility of an allergy or anaphylactic response. Perform correlations with clinical allergy history for conclusive diagnosis.
