Use
This test is designed for allergen testing in patients from the Great Plains region, specifically targeting common allergens in Kansas, Nebraska, North Dakota, and South Dakota. It measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies using a quantitative ImmunoCAP fluorescent enzyme immunoassay, allowing for the identification of potential allergens that could contribute to allergic reactions in patients. Results from this test are critical for constructing personalized allergy management plans and for making informed clinical decisions regarding the patient's exposure to different allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accuracy. It is advisable to separate serum from cells as soon as possible, or within two hours after collection, for optimal test results. The serum should be transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube with a minimum of 1.3 mL to facilitate accurate testing.
Limitations
Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. These results reflect the concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, but they may not directly correspond to the extent of a clinical response or skin test results when exposed to the allergen. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis, emphasizing the need for correlation with clinical history and in vivo reactivity tests.
