Use
This test is designed to quantitatively measure specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies to the Box Elder/Maple Tree allergen using the ImmunoCAP fluorescent enzyme immunoassay method. It helps in the diagnosis and management of patients with suspected allergic rhinitis, asthma, or other allergic conditions related to exposure to tree pollen. The results quantify the presence of allergen-specific IgE, indicative of an allergic response, although concentrations may not directly correlate with allergic symptoms. The test is particularly useful for healthcare providers in correlating laboratory findings with clinical history and observed reactivity to tree allergens.
Special Instructions
For accurate allergen testing, ensure adequate serum volume as per collection instructions. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection. Use ARUP Standard Transport Tube for aliquots. For multiple allergen tests, refer to specific allergen collection guidelines. Note that this test is approved in New York State.
Limitations
The test measures specific IgE to allergens but does not predict the severity of allergic reactions. IgE levels of 0.10-0.34 kU/L, while measured, have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. High IgE levels suggest sensitization but might not correlate with clinical symptoms upon allergen exposure. Negative results do not entirely rule out clinical allergies or anaphylactic potential. Results should be contextualized with clinical history and may not align with skin testing or symptom severity.
