Use
This test measures allergen-specific IgE levels to assess allergic sensitization to the sycamore tree. It is intended for use as an aid in the diagnosis of allergic diseases when allergic reactions are suspected. The quantitative measurements are used by specialists to understand the potential for IgE-mediated clinical reactions, though the exact correlation between IgE concentrations and clinical allergy is not always straightforward. It is important to correlate these results with clinical history and in vivo responses to specific allergens.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for accurate results. For optimal analysis, it is recommended to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible, and transfer the serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. Detailed allergen collection instructions are available on the ARUP website.
Limitations
The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE measured might not directly correlate with the degree of clinical response or the results from in vivo testing. A negative test result does not conclusively rule out the presence of a clinical allergy or the risk of anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by a specialist.
