Use
This test measures the concentration of IgE specific to allergens from the White Pine Tree in a patient's serum. The levels of allergen-specific IgE can be used as an aid in diagnosing allergic diseases, especially in cases where classic allergy symptoms (e.g., nasal congestion, sneezing, itching) occur shortly after exposure to the White Pine Tree. The test offers quantitative results which can support clinical decision-making in regard to allergen avoidance strategies and therapeutic management.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters prior to the test as it may affect the results. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, preferably within two hours of collection, to ensure accurate results. Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE detected does not directly correlate with the degree of allergy severity or skin test results upon allergen challenge. Some patients with clinical allergies may have negative lab results. Thus, allergen test results must be correlated with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. Additionally, hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens are unacceptable as they can interfere with test results.
