Use
Smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) are the standard diagnostic marker of autoimmune hepatitis (AH).
Special Instructions
To avoid delays in turnaround time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples, please submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested.
Limitations
The test uses indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) methodology, which may have variability in interpreting fluorescence intensity. Non-specific binding can lead to false-positive results. External factors such as hemolysis, bacterial contamination, lipemia, or icterus in specimens can affect the results. The test is specifically for serum and cannot be performed on other types of specimens.
