Antimicrobial Susceptibility - Gram Positive Rod

Use
This test is used to determine the in vitro susceptibility of gram-positive rod bacterial organisms to various antimicrobial agents. It helps guide appropriate antibiotic therapy by identifying which antibiotics the bacteria are susceptible to, resistant to, or intermediate, thus aiding in effective patient management and antibiotic stewardship.
Special Instructions
Transport the specimen in a sealed container with pure culture on agar slant or in bacterial transport media, placed individually in sealed bags. Isolate identification and specimen source are required. An additional processing fee is billed for organisms not submitted in pure culture. If species identification is not provided, ARUP will perform identification with additional charges.
Limitations
Only actively growing isolates in pure culture are acceptable. Mixed cultures or nonviable organisms will be rejected. Susceptibility testing is specific for the agents listed and may not detect resistance mechanisms not captured by this method. The results are based on the CLSI-approved broth microdilution method using custom-made MIC panels, which may not cover all possible resistance phenotypes.
