Autoimmune Myelopathy Panel, CSF

Use
The Autoimmune Myelopathy Panel, CSF is used to evaluate patients with rapid-onset neurological symptoms associated with spinal cord dysfunction. It aids in the diagnosis of autoimmune neurological disorders by detecting antibodies present in cerebrospinal fluid that are indicative of conditions such as neuromyelitis optica (NMO), autoimmune encephalitis, or paraneoplastic neurological syndromes. Testing in both serum and cerebrospinal fluid is recommended to maximize diagnostic yield.
Special Instructions
If specific antibodies (CV2, DPPX, GABA-BR, AQP4/NMO, or mGluR1) are positive, a titer will be added for further analysis, and additional charges may apply. Patients should coordinate specimen collection and ensure proper storage and transport conditions are maintained to avoid degradation. Collection in both serum and CSF is recommended for comprehensive analysis; see associated serum test for additional guidance.
Limitations
This panel is intended for detecting specific autoantibodies associated with particular neurological disorders. A negative result does not rule out a diagnosis of autoimmune neurological disease, as antibody levels can be low or absent in some patients or clinical conditions. Interpretation of the test results should be done in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other laboratory findings. Additionally, the test's accuracy depends on proper specimen collection, handling, and transport.
