Use
Detection and quantitation of BK virus (BKV) in EDTA plasma to be used as an aid in the diagnosis and management of BK virus infections. This assay is traceable to the 1st WHO International Standard for BK Virus for Nucleic Acid Amplification Techniques (NAT)-based assays.
Special Instructions
Collect specimen in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Centrifuge specimen within 24 hours of collection, remove plasma and transfer to a polypropylene screw-capped tube, and freeze. Ship frozen. For multiple tests requiring frozen specimens, submit separate samples to avoid delays in turnaround time.
Limitations
The assay has a quantitative range of 22 IU/mL to 100,000,000 IU/mL and an analytical sensitivity of 22 IU/mL. Quantitation outside this range may not be accurate, and results could be affected by factors such as interfering substances in the specimen or improper specimen handling. The assay is specific to BK virus and does not provide information on related viruses or other co-infections.
