Use
This test is used to diagnose Lyme disease in symptomatic individuals. It is intended for use within four weeks after symptom onset. The reflex testing pattern follows the standard two-tier testing (STTT) approach, where a positive or equivocal ELISA screen is confirmed by immunoblot, enhancing the diagnostic specificity for Lyme disease caused by Borrelia burgdorferi.
Special Instructions
If the VlsE1/pepC10 antibodies by ELISA are 0.91 IV or greater, the B. burgdorferi IgG antibody by immunoblot and IgM antibody by immunoblot will be added, resulting in additional charges.
Limitations
Negative results may occur in recently infected patients (less than 14 days). Equivocal results on the ELISA, with values between 0.91 - 1.09 IV, should be followed by repeat testing in 10-14 days if disease is still suspected. Plasma, CSF, and specimens that are contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic are unacceptable for this test and can lead to inaccurate results.
