Use

The C-Peptide, 180 Minutes test is utilized to evaluate pancreatitis and to assist in the differentiation of pancreatic insulinomas from non-pancreatic causes of hypoglycemia. It aids in the assessment of beta cell function and helps in the management of individuals with diabetes to observe insulin production. This test can be particularly useful in determining residual beta cell function in patients with diabetes being treated with insulin.

Special Instructions

Fasting specimen preferred for optimal results. Allow specimen to clot completely at room temperature and separate serum from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection.

Limitations

The C-Peptide, 180 Minutes test has certain limitations. Reference ranges have not been established for this test, and the interpretation of results should be considered in the context of the patient's clinical presentation and other laboratory findings. Grossly hemolyzed specimens may be rejected and cannot be processed, impacting test results.
