C-Peptide, 30 Minutes

Use
This test measures the level of C-peptide in the blood after 30 minutes to evaluate the production of insulin by the pancreas. It is primarily used to help differentiate between types of diabetes, assess beta cell function, and determine the cause of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). By measuring C-peptide levels, healthcare providers can infer the amount of insulin being produced by the body.
Special Instructions
It is preferred that the specimen is collected in a fasting state to ensure accurate results. Specimen should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection, to maintain the integrity of the sample.
Limitations
Reference intervals for C-peptide levels have not been established, hence interpretation should consider clinical context. Hemolysis may affect the test result, so grossly hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable for analysis. Conversion to nmol/L can be done by multiplying the result in ng/mL by 0.33.
