Use

The C-Peptide test is primarily used in assessing pancreatic function and insulin production by measuring the level of C-Peptide in the blood after insulin has been secreted. This test can help diagnose the cause of hypoglycemia, determine insulinomas or differentiate between insulin-dependent and insulin-independent hypoglycaemia. C-Peptide measurement is also important in evaluating residual beta cell function in diabetic individuals to guide treatment and management.

Special Instructions

Fasting specimen is preferred for this test to ensure the accuracy of the results.

Limitations

This test has not established reference ranges and requires conversion to nmol/L for certain analyses (multiply ng/mL by 0.33). The analysis is affected by factors such as hemolysis, time from collection to separation, and storage conditions, which can impact the accuracy and reliability of the C-Peptide measurements. Discrepancies can occur if proper collection and handling protocols are not followed.
