Use

This immunohistochemical stain for CD79A serves as a technical (stain-only) marker for B‑cell lineage identification. CD79A protein expression spans all stages of B‑cell maturation—from early precursors through plasma cells—and is useful in confirming B‑cell origin in leukemia, lymphoma, and other lymphoproliferative disorders.

Special Instructions

This test is performed as a stain‑and‑return (technical service only); pathologist interpretation is not included. Ordering is via electronic request or ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) for clients without electronic capability. Refer to the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure. New York state approval status applies.

Limitations

Interpretation requires integration with clinical history and other diagnostic tests; this service does NOT include interpretation. Specimen quality—such as insufficient tissue, depletion, non‑representative type, or overheated/oven‑baked slides—may compromise results. Paraffin slides should not be oven baked. Stability of IHC staining may be affected by age of cut sections and slide handling conditions.

Collection Instructions

Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen (cells must be prepared into a cellblock). Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3‑ to 5‑micron thick sections), positively charged slides in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). If sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
