Use
Diagnostic and prognostic test for chronic lymphocytic leukemia; detection rate is improved from 45% with a chromosome study to 80% with fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Differentiates CLL from MCL.
Special Instructions
Indicate pertinent clinical diagnosis and previous cytogenetic studies on the request form. Use sterile technique and Labcorp transport kits when possible to ensure specimen integrity. The EDTA tube is suboptimal for samples with shared karyotype and FISH study due to growth inhibition in cell culture.
Limitations
This test has limitations in that it will not detect molecular mutations or chromosomal alterations that are not targeted by the included probes. The analysis is restricted to abnormalities detectable by the specific probes and should be considered within the context of a full cytogenetic and hematologic evaluation.

Collection Instructions

Storage Instructions
Transport to the testing laboratory at room temperature; use of a cool pack or a Labcorp transport kit is acceptable. Do not allow samples to overheat or freeze.
