Special Instructions
It is important to state the sex of the patient on the test request form for accurate interpretation of the test results.
Limitations
The test may have limitations due to interference factors such as hemolysis in the sample, prolonged contact of serum with cells, and improper storage conditions. Specifically, creatine kinase may be affected by hemolysis whereas lactate dehydrogenase is affected by hemolysis and prolonged serum contact. Additionally, Macro CK Type 1 interference can lead to false positives in myocardial infarction diagnosis using CK-MB owing to antibody-related reactions.

Storage Instructions
Creatine kinase: refrigerate. Lactate dehydrogenase: maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not freeze or refrigerate. Creatine kinase: stable refrigerated for 48 hours or frozen for two weeks. Lactate dehydrogenase: stable at room temperature for seven days or refrigerated for no more than three days.
Causes for Rejection
Creatine kinase: hemolysis. Lactate dehydrogenase: hemolysis; prolonged contact of serum with red cells; frozen specimen; specimen refrigerated more than three days after collection at time of testing.
