Use
This test measures levels of Dehydroepiandrosterone Sulfate (DHEA-S) in the blood. DHEA-S is a hormone produced by the adrenal glands, serving as a precursor to male and female sex hormones. Special Instructions
This panel requires multiple specimens collected at different times. An initial tube is collected as a baseline, and further tubes are collected after the patient receives a treatment or stimulus, such as a drug or glucola. Patients should avoid high-dose biotin supplements for at least 72 hours before sample collection to prevent interference with results. It is crucial to coordinate with the clinician if unsure about the series order's purpose.
Limitations
The test may exhibit interference in individuals taking high doses of biotin, potentially leading to incorrect results. The method used may not distinguish between closely related steroid structures, and results can be influenced by other factors such as the patient's age, sex, and medication use.
