Use

The Febrile Antibodies Identification Panel is used to confirm the presence of diseases associated with febrile antibody responses. It is particularly useful in identifying infections such as brucellosis, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and typhus fever by detecting specific antibodies in the patient's serum. A seroconversion, or a significant rise in antibody titers between acute and convalescent samples, is considered strong evidence of a recent infection. This test is not recommended for initial testing but serves to confirm disease presence in individuals with compatible clinical histories and symptoms.

Special Instructions

For accurate results, it is crucial to separate the serum from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. The convalescent specimens must be received within 30 days of the acute specimens for parallel testing. Mark specimens clearly as acute or convalescent for correct processing.

Limitations

The test may present cross-reactivity issues, notably between Brucella and Francisella tularensis antigens, which could lead to false-positive results if not interpreted in that context. Low levels of IgM antibodies may occasionally persist for more than 12 months after infection and could contribute to false positives, particularly in Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever diagnostics. As the antibodies' reactivity might include group reactivity, such as Typhus Fever group's Rickettsia prowazekii, interpretation of results should consider potential inclusivity of other organisms.
