Use
The Fibrinogen Evaluation Profile III is used to assess the integrity of the patient's fibrinogen system, which is crucial for normal blood clotting. It includes tests to measure fibrinogen activity, fibrinogen antigen levels, and assesses the time it takes for blood to clot through tests like thrombin time and reptilase time. This profile helps in diagnosing coagulopathies, monitoring anticoagulant therapy, and is particularly useful in managing patients with suspected bleeding disorders or those at risk of thrombosis.
Special Instructions
Plasma must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture. It is crucial to send plasma in a plastic transport tube to avoid delays in the processing time when requesting multiple tests on frozen samples. Separate frozen specimens for each test requested are recommended.
Limitations
Fibrinogen antigen results may be falsely decreased if the sample is not sodium citrated plasma. Additional time may be required for confirmatory or reflex testing, which may affect the turnaround time. Failure to separate plasma from cells promptly may compromise the sample integrity, potentially affecting the accuracy of the clotting time measurements.
