Galectin-3 With B-Type Natriuretic Peptide
Use
Galectin-3 is a marker of fibrosis and adverse remodeling that results in a more progressive form of chronic heart failure. It is used as an aid in assessing the prognosis of patients diagnosed with chronic heart failure. B-Type Natriuretic Peptide is typically used in the assessment of patients with heart failure.

Not provided.
Limitations
Galectin-3 is NOT a marker of cardiac distress or decompensation. Drugs effective in the management of heart failure often fail to reduce levels of galectin-3 and galectin-3 levels should not be used to guide therapy. Galectin-3 levels show correlations with clinical variables, including age, gender, comorbidities like diabetes and atrial fibrillation, and NYHA classification. Elevated galectin-3 levels are generally stable over time, and once elevated, may not decrease despite heart failure management.
