Gamma Aminobutyric Acid Receptor, Type B (GABA-BR) Antibody, IgG by CBA-IFA With Reflex to Titer, Serum
Also known as: GABA-B SER
Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of limbic encephalitis and may be used to monitor treatment response in antibody-positive individuals. The presence of GABA-BR antibodies is associated with seizures and may be indicative of GABA-BR encephalitis, which is paraneoplastic in about 50% of cases, often associated with small-cell lung cancer. It is crucial for diagnosing autoimmune neurological diseases and should be interpreted alongside the patient's clinical history and other lab results.
Special Instructions
If the test is positive, a reflex to Gamma Aminobutyric Acid Receptor, Type B (GABA-BR) Antibody Titer, IgG, Serum is performed, and additional charges apply. Ensure correct collection and storage conditions to avoid specimen rejection due to hemolysis, contamination, or severe lipemia.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out autoimmune neurological disease. Results must be interpreted in conjunction with clinical history and other test findings. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA and is intended for clinical use in a CLIA certified laboratory.
