Use
This test is intended for the identification of nucleic acids from multiple bacteria, viruses, and parasites directly from stool samples in Cary-Blair transport media. It is useful for diagnosing gastrointestinal infections in individuals with symptoms suggestive of such infections by detecting the presence of specific pathogens.
Special Instructions
This test is approved for use by the New York Department of Health. However, due to specific regulations, the test cannot be performed for clients from New York City. It requires stool samples in enteric transport media obtainable through ARUP.
Limitations
This test may not detect the presence of pathogens if the sample is improperly collected or stored, or if pathogen levels are below the detection threshold. Unpreserved stool, stool in media other than Cary-Blair, rectal swabs, and specimens outside stability are unacceptable. Freezing the specimen renders it unacceptable.
