Use
HDL cholesterol measurement is used to assess cardiovascular disease risk and guide therapy. High-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) is known as the "good" cholesterol because it helps remove other forms of cholesterol from your bloodstream. Higher levels of HDL-C are associated with a lower risk of heart disease. The test is significant in identifying patients at risk for coronary heart disease (CHD).

Limitations
Negative assay interference may occur with high concentrations of N-acetylcysteine (NAC) and NAPQI, an acetaminophen metabolite. This interference is generally observed only at concentrations expected during an overdose.
