Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) and Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) Profile (Lesions), PCR
Use
This test is intended to be used as an aid in identifying the specific etiologic agent of vesicular lesions; caused by either varicella zoster virus (VZV) or herpes simplex virus (HSV). It also differentiates HSV-1 from HSV-2.
Special Instructions
HSV PCR is a single test that detects the presence of HSV DNA and determines which HSV type is present if positive. Testing for HSV-1 and HSV-2 is simultaneous, as there's no option to test for HSV-1 without also testing for HSV-2.
Limitations
This test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by Labcorp, and it has not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical and laboratory findings. In some cases, additional confirmatory or reflex tests may be required.
