Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) Types I/II by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: HSV IHC
Use
This test is used for the detection and differentiation of Herpes Simplex Virus Types I and II in patient tissue samples. It involves staining tissues to identify viral presence through the use of immunohistochemistry techniques, which are essential for diagnosing infections in clinical settings. The detection of HSV in tissues helps confirm the diagnosis of herpetic infections and supports therapeutic decision-making.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service only. It is recommended to use the ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Offerings brochure for reference. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained slides in a tissue transport kit, available through ARUP Connect. Slides must not be oven baked.
Limitations
This assay is developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories; however, it is not FDA-cleared or approved and should be used in a CLIA certified lab solely for clinical purposes. Indefinite ambient and refrigerated stability is claimed, but specimens must not be frozen. Depleted or non-representative tissues are unacceptable.
