Use
The Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG), β-Subunit, Quantitative test is primarily used for the monitoring of hCG levels in the blood over time, which is crucial for managing and monitoring various medical conditions, including pregnancy status, trophoblastic disease, and certain types of cancers where hCG is produced. This test aids in assessing the treatment response and the progression of these conditions by providing a graphical summary of hCG levels.
Special Instructions
Patient's Social Security number is required for monitoring. It is important to use the same assay method consistently for serial testing, as values from different methods should not be compared. If patients are consuming high doses of biotin, it is recommended to stop intake at least 72 hours prior to sample collection to avoid interference. For testing without the serial monitor service, use test 004416.
Limitations
The test was developed by LabCorp and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. Assay results cannot be used interchangeably with different assay methods and should not be considered absolute evidence of presence or absence of malignant disease. High doses of biotin can interfere with this test.
