Casandra Test Code QD60045Version 1 (DRAFT)
Performing Lab
hCG, Total, Qualitative
Also known as: Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, Chorionic Gonadotropin
Clinical Use
Order TestUse
This test is used only to determine pregnancy; it detects the presence (qualitative) of total human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) in the patient’s serum, indicating whether the patient is likely pregnant. It is not intended to measure levels quantitatively.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Heterophilic antibodies may produce low false‑positive results; urinary hCG may be negative if “phantom” hCG is suspected. Pituitary secretion may be a source of low‑level hCG in postmenopausal women.
