Human T-Lymphotropic Virus Types I/II Antibodies, Western Blot
Also known as: HTLV WBLOT
Use
The test is used to confirm antibody test results for a positive screening test for HTLV types I and II, indicating potential infection. The test helps in understanding if the patient has been exposed to HTLV and if it is causing an active infection, which is particularly relevant in contexts like blood donation and tissue product safety. It is not intended for blood donor screening or for re-entry protocols.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
This assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated re-entry protocols, or for screening Human Cell, Tissues and Cellular and Tissue-Based Products (HCT/P). The test has not been cleared or approved by the US FDA. Early HTLV infection prior to seroconversion may not be detected. Repeated indeterminate results may occur, which require further confirmatory testing.
