Use
Use in the initial evaluation of individuals with serum monoclonal protein present but negative IgG, IgA, and IgM immunofixation studies. This assay is designed for qualitative assessment of monoclonal IgD and IgE proteins, providing critical insight into the immunoglobulin profile of the patient and helping in the diagnosis of possible plasma cell disorders or other conditions characterized by monoclonal gammopathies.
Special Instructions
For optimal test results, it is crucial to separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. Rejection of plasma specimens and improper storage conditions should be strictly avoided. Follow recommended patient preparation and storage instructions to maintain specimen integrity before testing.
Limitations
This test does not detect IgG, IgA, or IgM monoclonal proteins. Negative results do not rule out all forms of monoclonal proteins, and further analysis may be required if clinical suspicion persists. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests. Several factors, like improper specimen handling or transportation, can affect test accuracy.
