Use
The Immunofixation Electrophoresis (IFE) test is used to confirm the presence of monoclonal proteins and classify their heavy- and light-chain types. It aids in the diagnosis of monoclonal gammopathies, including multiple myeloma. The method provides qualitative results to assist with disease diagnosis and monitoring in conjunction with other laboratory and clinical information.
Special Instructions
Please note that plasma is an unacceptable sample type for this test, and serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection.
Limitations
The interpretation of the Immunofixation Electrophoresis test results should be correlated with other laboratory tests such as serum protein electrophoresis and quantitative immunoglobulins, as well as clinical information. The test provides a qualitative assessment and does not quantify the monoclonal proteins present.
