Use
The Immunofixation, Random, Urine test is used to aid in the monitoring of patients with urinary monoclonal proteins, such as Bence Jones proteins. It is particularly important for the detection of monoclonal free kappa light chains in urine. The test helps in assessing conditions associated with monoclonal gammopathies, such as multiple myeloma, by identifying the presence of monoclonal immunoglobulins in the urine.
Special Instructions
Ensure that the random urine sample is collected properly for accurate results. Follow specimen preparation guidelines to transfer the urine to a 4 mL aliquot into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for submission.
Limitations
The test may not detect low concentrations of monoclonal proteins, especially if not present in significant quantity in the urine. Ambient samples are unacceptable, as they may degrade the proteins before analysis. Ensure proper storage and transport conditions to maintain sample integrity. Results must be interpreted in the context of patient's clinical history and other diagnostic information.
